Botanical Name Yucca filamentosa 'Color Guard'
Description A rugged and luminous choice for Southeast Texas landscapes. This yucca is highly adaptable, but excellent drainage is mandatory to prevent root rot in the Houston area. It can tolerate some clay if planted on a slope or in a raised bed, but it performs best in sandy or rocky soils amended with organic matter.
Exposure Full Sun to Part Shade; color is most vibrant in Full Sun.
Height x Width 2-3 ft. x 2-3 ft. (Flower spikes can reach 4-6 ft.)
Water Low; extremely drought-tolerant once established. Avoid overwatering.
Zones 4 - 10 (Reliable perennial in Houston)
Fertilization Minimal; light application of balanced fertilizer in spring.
Pruning Remove spent flower stalks at the base; trim away dead lower leaves as needed.
Deer Resistance High
