Botanical Name Ilex x 'Conade' (Emerald Colonnade®)
Description Emerald Colonnade® Holly is a superior hybrid prized for its extremely tidy, pyramidal-to-columnar form. This 15-gallon (15G) specimen is highly valued by Houston and Willis homeowners who need a substantial evergreen screen without the sprawling width of traditional hollies. Its leaves are small, serrated, and a brilliant, deep emerald green that maintains its luster year-round. It is more heat-tolerant and adaptable than many other holly varieties, thriving in the heavy clay of Southeast Texas. Because it is a male clone, it does not produce berries, ensuring a clean, uniform look for formal hedges or architectural accents.
Exposure Full Sun to Partial Shade
Height x Width 10-12' Height x 5-8' Width
Water Moderate; requires regular watering to establish. Once the root system is set, it is remarkably resilient in local soils but appreciates supplemental water during extreme Houston heat.
Zones 7 - 9
Fertilization Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support dense foliage growth and maintain its deep green color.
Pruning Very minimal required. It naturally maintains its columnar shape but can be sheared in late winter or early spring for a more manicured, formal appearance.
Deer Resistance High
