Botanical Name Ficus carica 'LSU Gold'
Description Developed by the LSU AgCenter, this variety is specifically bred for the hot, humid Gulf Coast climate. It produces exceptionally large, flat-shaped figs with a beautiful gold skin. The fruit has a tight eye, which makes it highly resistant to souring and insects—a major advantage for growers in the Houston metro area.
Exposure Full Sun
Height x Width 10-15 feet tall x 10-12 feet wide
Water Requires regular watering during the first few seasons to establish a deep root system. Once established, it is quite hardy but benefits from mulching to preserve moisture in Willis.
Zones 7 - 10
Chill Hours 100 - 200 hours
Harvest Time July to August
Deer Resistance Moderate
