Botanical Name Liriope muscari 'Aztec'
Description 'Aztec Grass' is a highly popular choice for Houston landscapes due to its bright, variegated foliage that lightens up dark corners. While it is quite adaptable, it performs best in loose, well-draining soil. It can tolerate the area's clay if the soil is amended with organic matter to prevent it from sitting in water, which can lead to crown rot during our wet Gulf Coast winters.
Exposure Part Sun to Shade (Protect from intense afternoon sun)
Height x Width 12-15 in. Tall x 15-18 in. Wide
Water Moderate; prefers consistent moisture but is drought tolerant once established.
Zones 7 - 11
Fertilization Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring.
Pruning Mow or trim back old foliage in late winter before new spring growth emerges.
Deer Resistance Moderate
