Botanical Name Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez'
Description The 'Natchez' is widely considered the premier white-flowering crape myrtle for the Houston metro area. This 3-gallon size is an excellent way to add a fast-growing shade and flowering tree to your garden. It produces massive clusters of pure white flowers from early summer through fall. As the tree grows, its smooth, dark cinnamon-colored bark peels away to create a striking sculptural look. It is highly resistant to powdery mildew and thrives in our humid Gulf Coast heat. For best results in local clay, amend the soil with organic matter to help it establish quickly.
Exposure Full Sun (6+ hours daily for maximum blooming)
Height x Width 20' - 30' Height x 15' - 20' Width
Water Moderate; requires regular watering during the first 1-2 years to establish. Once mature, it is exceptionally drought-tolerant.
Zones 7 - 10
Fertilization Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen blends that promote leaves over flowers.
Pruning Prune in late winter to remove seed pods or crossing branches. Do not "top" the tree; allow its natural vase-like shape and bark to develop fully.
Deer Resistance Medium
