Botanical Name Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus'
Description A standout variety of Purple Coneflower, 'Magnus' is highly regarded in the Houston metro area for its ability to withstand our intense summer heat and humidity. While it is adaptable to many soil types, it performs best in well-drained locations; in areas with heavy, poorly-drained clay, we recommend amending the soil or using raised beds to prevent crown rot during our wet winters. It is a vital nectar source for local butterflies and bees.
Exposure Full Sun (Best for blooming) to Light Shade
Height x Width 2-3 feet tall x 1-2 feet wide
Water Low to Moderate; very drought-tolerant once established.
Zones 3 - 9 (Reliable perennial for the Houston region)
Fertilization Apply a handful of compost or a light balanced fertilizer in spring.
Pruning Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers; cut back to the ground in late winter.
Deer Resistance Moderate to High
