Botanical Name Agave asperrima (Selection)
Description 'Frosty Blue' is a rugged, wide-leaved agave prized for its intense powdery blue-gray color and architectural form. While it is incredibly heat and drought tolerant for the Houston metro area, its primary enemy is poor drainage. If your landscape consists of heavy clay, you must plant this variety in a raised mound or a large container with a porous soil mix to prevent root rot during our frequent humid rain cycles.
Exposure Full Sun
Height x Width 3-4 feet Tall x 4-6 feet Wide
Water Very Low; only supplement during extreme droughts once established. Requires "sharp" drainage.
Zones 8a-11
Fertilization Minimal; apply a slow-release cactus fertilizer once in the spring.
Pruning Remove spent lower leaves and unwanted "pups" (offsets) around the base to maintain shape.
Deer Resistance Yes
