Terry Wibberg purchased Boardmans Nursery in 2000 and renamed it The Growers Outlet. Originally The Growers Outlet was started as a wholesale only operation to sell to landscapers, other nurseries and to supply our former satellite location in the Woodlands. Because of demand by customers in the area we abandoned the wholesale business to other nurseries and concentrated on supplying just local landscapers and our retail customers. Our business now is about 80% retail and 20% wholesale to landscapers.
We have 2 acres of growing and display area and grow over 350,000 annuals and about 20,000 perennials yearly. We buy in our shrubs and trees from the best local growers with shipments coming in at least once per week. If you don't see it here we can order it for you based on current availability.
In 2009 we received the award for highest quality and came in second place overall in ratings of nurseries in the Houston metro area as a result of surveys by customers run by RateANursery.com.
In the summer of 2010 we started construction of our 6000 square feet of display beds. We will display our favorite shrubs and perennials in theme beds. We have beds for butterflies and hummingbirds, deer resistant plants, natives, fragrant plants, drought tolerant plants, roses and Texas Superstars. We will combine these easy to grow favorites with annuals from our greenhouses. In front of each bed will be information on the planted material as well as others that we did not select for planting.
